Course
Characteristics:
Beverley is a flat track 1 mile 3 furlongs
round, with a chute providing a extension to the home straight for 5
furlong races. The back straight is downhill and the final 3 furlongs in
the home straight are distinctly uphill. The course is right handed
(clockwise).
The 5 furlong sprint course is particularly
testing and if there are any stamina doubts about a runner then it
should be avoided.
Beverley is another of those courses where
jockeyship is important and jockeys who have previous form at the course
should be considered.
Draw Advantage: In 5f races a low draw is a
considerable advantage, with a lesser advantage up to 1m 2f. The one
exception being when the going is very testing, in those circumstances
there is usually a faster strip of ground on the stands side in which
case high drawn horses my be able to counteract the high draw advantage.
Having said that in 2008 the course appear to have introduced a somewhat
controversial watering policy in an attempt to even out the draw bias.
(was the opposite way round prior to the 2011 season when the stall
numbering system changed)
